Privacy note
Last updated 2026-10-23. Beta draft. This note covers this website and the SoluTerminal app during the free beta. "We" means the SoluTerminal team.
The short version
- Your sessions and code stay on your computer. SoluTerminal doesn't upload your code.
- You can use SoluTerminal without an account. A free account adds phone/browser access, push alerts, voice and smart approvals; each is described below, with what it sends.
- Once a day the app sends an anonymous check-in so we can count active installs. You can turn it off in Settings.
- This website has no cookies, ad pixels, trackers or forms. It only counts downloads, anonymously.
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
This website
The site and the installer download are served by our web host, which keeps standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, to run and secure the service. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
When you download, we count it with the link tag you arrived from (such as
utm_source) and whether you downloaded with or without an account. If you then create an account, we store that tag with your
account so we know which channels bring people. To remember that tag between pages, your
browser keeps it in this site's local storage for up to 30 days. We don't track you across
sites.
The app on your computer
SoluTerminal runs your shells and AI coding agents on your own computer. Your layouts, settings and logs are stored in a folder in your home directory. Without an account, we don't receive your terminal contents, files or code.
Changes to your Claude Code and Codex settings, only if you allow them. On first run SoluTerminal asks whether Claude Code and Codex may use its tools in every session on your computer, including ones outside SoluTerminal. If you turn this on, it adds the following. They only talk to the app on your computer (127.0.0.1); nothing is sent to us. If you leave it off, nothing is added, and SoluTerminal passes its tools only to the Claude Code and Codex sessions it starts in its own panes.
-
A
soluterminaltool server in Claude Code's user settings (~/.claude.json) and, if you use Codex, in~/.codex/config.toml. Its tools let an agent list, read and type into your panes, open and close panes, switch workspaces, show a dev server or file in a tile, read, search and edit files, and manage schedules. -
Hooks in
~/.claude/settings.jsonthat tell the app about each Claude Code session start and tool call, so it can match sessions to panes and show their activity. -
A short block between
soluterminal:managedmarkers in~/.codex/AGENTS.md. Nothing outside the markers is changed.
To remove them, turn off Let Claude Code and Codex use SoluTerminal in Settings ›
Devices. Uninstalling SoluTerminal on Windows removes them too. Either way, only
SoluTerminal's own entries are removed and a copy of each changed file is kept in
SoluTerminal's data folder. Without the app, run solud uninstall-cleanup, which
does the same.
A few things do leave your computer, even without an account:
- Update checks. The app checks for new versions in the background and downloads them from our release host (GitHub), which sees these as ordinary download requests.
- Anonymous daily check-in. Once a day, each install sends us a random install ID, the app version, your operating system family (such as Windows) and whether the app is signed in. Nothing else: no file paths, no terminal contents or code, and we don't store your IP address. We use it only to count active installs, anonymously. Turn it off in Settings.
- Smart approvals with your own key. If you set up your own AI key, the permission question an agent shows is sent directly from your computer to that AI provider to decide whether to approve it. It doesn't pass through us. Always approve, set per pane, uses built-in safety rules that run on your computer and send nothing. Only with your own key, or with smart approvals through your account, may a permission question those rules don't recognise be checked by that provider before it's answered.
- Your AI agents. Claude Code, Codex and other tools you run talk to their providers under your own accounts, as they always do. What they send is covered by those providers' terms and privacy policies, not this note.
If you sign in (optional)
A free account is optional. Sign-in is by a code sent to your email and is handled by Supabase, our authentication and database provider. We store:
- Your email address, used to sign you in, and sign-in identifiers.
- The machines you pair with your account.
-
The link tag you arrived from (such as
utm_source), if you create your account from a link that carries one, such as this website's "Get started". It is kept with your account and deleted with it. - Push subscription endpoints: the addresses your browsers or devices give us for delivering push alerts, for each one where you turn alerts on.
- Your sidebar layout (which sections show and in what order), so it matches on every computer and browser you sign in on.
- Your choice about product-update emails. The box at sign-up starts unticked. If you tick it, or turn it on later in Settings, we record that you agreed, when, and the wording you saw, and we may email you about new features. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn it off in Settings at any time. Sign-in codes and security notices are sent either way.
While you're signed in, the app checks your account's status with our service from time to time. Two features send content to AI providers, and only when you use them with your account:
- Voice input. When you use voice, the audio is sent to our speech provider (Groq) to transcribe it. To clean up the result, the text is then sent to our cleanup provider (also Groq) together with up to about 4 KB of recent text from the pane you're dictating into, so names and commands come out right. If Claude Code is signed in on your computer, the cleanup can run on your own Claude Code instead: then the text and that pane text go from your computer to Anthropic under your own account, not through us, and only the audio comes to us for transcription. You can switch this off in Settings. Nothing is sent unless you use voice.
- Smart approvals. When smart approvals run through your account, the relevant terminal prompt text (the permission question an agent shows) is sent through our service to our approval provider (TypeSafe) to decide whether to approve it. If you set up your own key instead, it goes directly from your computer to that provider, not through us.
If you pair a computer with your account (optional)
Opening your sessions from your phone or another browser, and push alerts, need you to pair a computer with your account. While a computer is paired:
- Remote sessions. When you open its sessions remotely, what your terminals show and what you type passes through our relay. The relay forwards this traffic; it isn't built to keep it.
- Push alerts. When an agent needs you or finishes, we send an alert to the push subscriptions you turned on, through your browser's or device's push service.
- Usage records, only if you turn them on. "Share usage statistics" in Settings is off unless you switch it on. Then, for each Claude Code or Codex reply from that point on: the time, model, token counts, tool and version, session and message identifiers, the working-directory path, the git branch and the repository's remote URL. Never your prompts or the replies. We use this to show you your usage and keep the service working.
- Crash and error reports, unless you turn them off. The error, where in our code it happened (a stack trace), the app version, and your operating system and CPU type. Your own folder names and values that look like tokens or keys are removed on your computer first, and terminal contents are never included. Turn this off in Settings.
- Update reports. The old and new version numbers after an automatic update, and whether it worked.
- Feedback you send from the app. What you write, any images you attach, your account email, your computer's name, your app version and platform and, only if you tick the box, a short snapshot of the selected pane's recent output and app logs, with tokens, keys and home-directory paths removed first. Feedback is filed in our private issue tracker, hosted on GitHub, and an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) helps us sort it.
Unpairing the computer from your account stops all of this.
Who else handles data
Our web and cloud hosting providers, Supabase (sign-in, database and the download count), GitHub (app updates and our issue tracker), Resend (sign-in and account emails), Groq (voice input through your account, only when used), Anthropic (helps sort feedback), TypeSafe (smart approvals, only when used), and your browser's or device's push service (push alerts, only if you turn them on). Each gets only what it needs to do its part.
How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account exists. Usage, crash and update reports, and the anonymous daily check-ins, are kept for up to 12 months. Feedback is kept until the issue is closed, then for up to 12 months. Emails are kept for up to 12 months after we last hear from you. The record of your product-update email choice, and its history, is kept while your account exists so we can show what you agreed to. Download counts hold no personal data.
See, correct or delete your data
To get a copy of your data, correct it, or have your account and its data deleted, email hello@soluterminal.com from the address you use with SoluTerminal. We'll do it within 30 days and confirm by email.
